Tanya Morgan had a chance to answer a couple of questions for us while they’re on the road w/Hieroglyphics. Grafwurks: For the people who have been living on the moon for the last couple of years, can you tell our readers who Tanya Morgan is?
Tanya Morgan: Tanya Morgan: Tanya Morgan is a Rap Group [lol] based out of Cincinnati and Brooklyn with 3 emcees.

Grafwurks: When Tanya Morgan was first created with Donwill and Ilyas being in Cincinnati and Von Pea being in Brooklyn, was that ever a big issue?

Tanya Morgan: No, we just used the internet and made it happen. sending music back and forth that way, it was actually easy. we have a natural chemistry so its easy to be on the same page musically

Grafwurks: Tanya Morgan has a very eccentric-neosoul vibe to it, how did the name Tanya Morgan come about?

Tanya Morgan: Don and Von were on the internet thinking up a cool name for a group that didnt sound too “rappy” and came up with it. I dont know why people think neo soul when they hear the name because its just a regular persons name, but its all good! haha…

Grafwurks: You guys have worked with such artists as; Nicolay, The Justus League, Fat Jon, and 88 Keys. Are there any other artists that you guys would like to work with in the near future?

Ilyas: I can’t speak for all 3 of us but I’d like to work with Flying Lotus, Mumbles, Sa-Ra, and De La Soul (dream pick).

Grafwurks: How did it feel to receive 3.5 mics for Moonlighting on The Source magazine?

Tanya Morgan: It was a blessing and I was elated but I honestly keepin’ it real…another half mic wouldve been nice hahaha

Grafwurks: What are your thoughts on how hip hop is being viewed by due to all the commercializing and what not? (e.i. money, “bling,” and just overall material possessions)

Tanya Morgan: I can’t knock it.  It’s an expression of the state of the world.  Money is the blood flow of this worldwide society we live in and to express anything but would be a lie in my opinion.  Pop culture will serve as a great barometer for people of the future to see what was going on now especially being that we are in the digital age.

Grafwurks: With the new EP; The Bridge, which consists of eight track; has been said that it will act as a “bridge” for your previous work Moonlighting and your upcoming album Brooklynati. What can you tell us about that?

Tanya Morgan: It’s a pleasant appetizer for the main course that is Brooklynati, produced by von pea, brick beats, mysterious productions and 88 keys. its available now so please get it!

Grafwurks: Do you guys ever do a Google search on yourselves?

Tanya Morgan: No comment hahaha

Grafwurks: If you could sum up what Tanya Morgan stands for and your goal in ten words, what words would you use?

Tanya Morgan: We don’t stand for anything really.  We’re just 3 guys having fun doing what we love. that pretty much sums it up!

Grafwurks: So far, what has been your favorite venue to perform at?

Tanya Morgan: Can’t recall the name of the venue but it was In Toronto opening for the Roots. the crowd was the biggest we’ve played to so far but they showed us a lot of love, and Toronto gets a bad rap for not showing love….they showed it to us!

Grafwurks: Could we ever expect maybe a Tanya Morgan tour?

Tanya Morgan: Yup one on the way…with Hieroglyphics starting July, It’ll be the 4^th tour we’ve been on.

Grafwurks: What can you tell any upcoming emcee and artists that are on the up rise?

Tanya Morgan: Do you and ignore what looks like the cool or hip thing to do. To do music is a  spiritual process whether you’re conscious of it or not.

Grafwurks: Is there anything upcoming project from you guys that we should be on the lookout?

Tanya Morgan: Brooklynati! Brooklynati! Brooklynati!
