My Name is Nobody (also known as Il mio nome è Nessuno and Lonesome Gun) is a 1973 spaghetti Western comedy film. The film was directed by Tonino Valerii and, in some scenes, by Sergio Leone. It was written by Leone, Fulvio Morsella and Ernesto Gastaldi. The cast includes Terence Hill, Henry Fonda, and Jean Martin. Jack Beauregard (Henry Fonda) is a tired, aging legend, who just wants to retire in peace in Europe to get away from young gunmen constantly trying to test themselves against the master. ‘Nobody’ (Terence Hill’s character) idolizes Beauregard and wants to see him die in a blaze of glory going against the infamous Wild Bunch singlehanded. These are a gang of bandits who launder their loot of stolen gold via a fake goldmine, and the owner sends them after Beauregard because his now-dead brother was in on the deal. Nobody dogs Beauregard through the west, encountering many who wish him dead, and pesters him to let him stage his grand finale. Eventually, the grand shoot-out does take place by a railway line. Nobody arranges for Beauregard to shoot at the Wild Bunch’s mirrored-concho-decorated saddles which, he’s discovered, contain sticks of dynamite, thus letting a few good shots eliminate many of the men. To escape, they board a train that Nobody has stolen. Finally, Nobody fakes a very public showdown with Beauregard, “killing” him and allowing him to slip away quietly. A streetsign, marking where the gunfight took place, says “Nobody Was Faster On The Draw”. Beauregard boards his boat to Europe and a quiet retirement while Nobody resumes his own life of adventure and dangers.

Pan’s Labyrinth (Spanish: El laberinto del fauno, literally The Labyrinth of the Faun) is a 2006 Spanish language fantasy film written and directed by Mexican film-maker Guillermo del Toro. It was produced and distributed by the Mexican film company Esperanto Films. Pan’s Labyrinth takes place in a dual setting: Spain in May and June, 1944, during the turbulent period shortly after the Spanish Civil War, and a fantasy world experienced by a Spanish girl, Ofelia, who is given three tasks by a mysterious faun. In the “real world,” Ofelia’s stepfather, the Falangist Captain Vidal, viciously hunts the Spanish Maquis, guerrillas who continue fighting the Franco regime in the region, while her pregnant mother grows increasingly ill. The “fantasy world” is one that Ofelia enters through an overgrown labyrinth garden, where she meets all manner of strange and magical creatures who become central to her story. The film employs make-up, puppetry, and CGI effects to create its creatures. Del Toro stated that he considers the story to be a parable, influenced by fairy tales, and that it addresses and continues themes related to his earlier film The Devil’s Backbone, a spiritual sequel, though not an actual sequel. The original Spanish title refers to the mythological fauns of Greek mythology, while the English title refers specifically to the faun-like Greek god Pan (intended to help English-speakers differentiate the title from the term fawn). However, Del Toro has stated that the faun in the film is not Pan. The film premiered at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. It was released in the United Kingdom on November 24, 2006. In the United States and Canada, the film was given a limited release on December 29, 2006, with a nationwide release on January 19, 2007. Pan’s Labyrinth has won numerous international awards, including three Academy Awards, the Ariel Award for Best Picture, and the 2007 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form.

The Fifth Element is a French 1997 science fantasy, action, comedy, techno thriller film directed by Luc Besson, starring Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman, Milla Jovovich, Ian Holm, and Chris Tucker. The production design for the film was developed by French comics creators Jean Giraud (Moebius) and Jean-Claude Mézières and shows a strong influence of French comic storytelling and aesthetic style[citation needed]. The costume design was created by French fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier, who produced 954 costumes for use in the film. The film’s central plot involves the survival of humanity, which becomes the duty of a taxicab driver (and former Special Forces soldier) named Korben Dallas (Willis) when a young woman named Leeloo (Jovovich) falls into his taxicab. She is the Fifth Element, whose appearance was prophesied by the Father Vito Cornelius (Holm). Korben’s mission is to gather the other four elements before a black planet that represents pure evil collides with Earth. Mangalores, slow-witted, shape-shifting warrior mercenary aliens hired by corporate tyrant Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg (Oldman), are given the task to thwart Korben’s efforts. Although largely set in a futuristic New York City, the film was a French production, with most of the principal photography filmed at Pinewood Studios in England. Some scenes were also shot on location in Mauritania. The concert scenes were filmed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, except for the special effect shots that show the Planet Fhloston through the ship’s portholes. The Fifth Element was shot in Super 35 mm film format; many scenes contain visual effects, and nearly all of visual effects scenes are hard-matted.

Human Traffic is a 1999 film written and directed by Justin Kerrigan. It is based around a group of friends living in Cardiff and their clubbing exploits over the course of one weekend, including sexual exploits and drug use. In a recent edition of UK gay lifestyle magazine Attitude, actor Danny Dyer spoke about the film being based on the withdrawn 1999 film Loved Up mentioning that the original film’s drug and sexual content forced it to be withdrawn. Film critic Colm Keaveny proclaimed this film to be Danny Dyers “finest hour”.

Boiler Room is a 2000 U.S. drama, written and directed by Ben Younger, and starring Giovanni Ribisi, Vin Diesel and Nia Long. Other characters in the film were played by Ben Affleck, Nicky Katt, Scott Caan, Tom Everett Scott (who also starred in That Thing You Do! with Ribisi), Ron Rifkin and Jamie Kennedy. The film reunited Giovanni Ribisi and Vin Diesel who both had supporting roles in Saving Private Ryan. The film takes a look at the world of “boiler room” (seedy, dishonorable) brokerage firms. The film centers around college dropout Seth Davis (Ribisi), a budding underground casino owner in Queens whose life turns upside down when offered employment at J.T. Marlin, a less-than-reputable brokerage firm. Davis’ opposition to his disapproving federal judge father drives the plot as Davis goes deeper into the operation at J.T. Marlin than he’d like, learning how the firm scams its clients. The company is a chop shop brokerage firm that runs a “pump and dump”, using its brokers to create artificial demand in pumping up the price of an IPO of a fake company. Though since it is a fake company, it is technically a ponzi scheme. Once the price rises, the firm sells its stake and cashes in. Its earnings are used in yet another IPO. Marlin trained their own brokers as to take advantage of their ignorance. When Seth winds up finding out that the Feds are on his case, he realizes he needs to get out, and needs to try and help one customer who couldn’t really afford to be scammed in the first place. The DVD release includes an alternate ending that implies a rampage massacre in the final scene by the aforementioned financially disgruntled victim in the story.
